¡¡¡¡ The
Laboratory of Molecular & Biomolecular Electronics, Southeast
University (SEU), now the State Key Laboratory of Bioelectronics,
SEU, was founded in 1985 by Dr. Yu Wei, one of China¡¯s noted experts
in electronics. The laboratory was conferred on the name of Chien-Shiung
Wu Laboratory by the world-famous physicist Dr.
Chien-Shiung Wu in 1992 and was approved as an open laboratory
of molecular & biomolecular electronics by the Ministry of Education
of China (MOE) in the same year. In 1997, the laboratory was renamed
the Key Laboratory of Molecular & Biomolecular Electronics of
the MOE. In 2005, the laboratory was named the State Key Laboratory
of Bioelectronics by the Ministry of Science & Technology of
China.
¡¡¡¡ The laboratory belongs to the discipline of
biomedical engineering, which was accredited to be qualified to
offer doctoral programs in bioelectronics by the Academic Degree
Commission of the State Council of China in 1993, to be a provincial
key discipline of Jiangsu in 1995. In 1998, the discipline was approved
by the MOE to set up a postdoctoral research station and the professorship
of Changjiang Scholar, and the discipline was assessed by the MOE
as a state key discipline in 2002.
¡¡¡¡ Bioelectronics is the cross frontier of information
science and life science, the development of which is of great significance
to that of biomedicine and information science. The objective of
the laboratory construction is to conduct frontier research in the
light of the development of bioelectronics; to explore innovative
methods and techndogies for biological science by means of the latest
latest achievements in information science, and to apply these technologies
to probe into life process of some seious diseases to human being.
¡¡¡¡ The research activities in the laboratory focus
on the fabrication of biomaterials and biodevices, acquisition and
sensing of bio-information, and application of bio-information systems.
The research fields cover the preparation of nano(molecular) materials,
assembly and characterization of molecular ordered structures, application
of bio/nano materials, nano(molecular) devices, implantable bioelectronic
devices, detection of single molecule and single cell, biosensor,
micro-array chip, microfluid biochip, bioinformatics, application
of biomimic information processing system, modeling and using of
brain information system, et al. The laboratory has established
the platform for the fabrication of bio/nano materials and study
of bio-compatibility, the platform for the detection of single molecule
and single cell, the platform for the study and the application
of micro-array chips and post genomic technology, the platform for
the fabrication and characterization of micro/nano structures, the
platform for the analysis and computation of bio-information, and
the platform for the development and application of bioelectronic
devices. The above six platforms compose the facilities and technology
systems for our innovative researches.
¡¡¡¡ The faculty of the laboratory consists of 40
full-time researchers, among whom there are 14 professors. The laboratory
has 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, two fellowships
of Changjiang Scholars, two winners of the National Prominent Talents
Foundation, two winner of Trans-Century Excellent Talents and three
winners of New Century Excellent Talents of the MOE. A team of young
scientists having various research backgrounds such as information
science, electronics, biomedicine, chemistry, physics and computer
has been formed in the laboratory and received special funds for
innovation groups from the National Natural Science Foundation of
China for its outstanding researches in 2001. The laboratory has
undertaken and completed some key projects of the National Natural
Science Foundation of China, some 863 hi-tech projects, and some
other national major research tasks of ¡°the Eighth Five-year Plan¡±,
¡°the Ninth Five-year Plan¡±, ¡°the Tenth Five-year Plan¡± and ¡°the
Eleventh Five-year Plan¡±. The faculty has published several hundreds
articles in important international academic publications, obtained
many provincial and ministerial awards, and held over 30 patents.
More than 70 Ph. D students graduated from the Laboratory, and over
20 researchers have completed their post-doctoral work. The laboratory
has organized many seminars and international conferences, and developed
cooperation with the laboratories in U.S.A., Japan, Germany, U.K.,
France, Switzerland and so on.
